Message: Dear Belgin, your story about turkish men was great and during years here I've seen many miserable marriages between foreigners and turks but also great matches. Many turkish women adore equal system between men and women in my home country Finland but when they understand that equality means that they can't stay as housewives, drink tea and watch tv all day, they realize what equality means. My turkish husband and I both work, all the decissions are made together, houseworks are done together. I think everyone should learn the culture before marrying foreigner, then you can avoid wrong kind of men.

Message: I loved your article "Republic of Turkish violence". It says so much about what has gone wrong with this country over the last 5 years. I'm a foreigner (of course with a name like Armstrong). I live in Cihangir, supposedly the most modern, most international, most liberal neighborhood in Istanbul, and I have had exactly the same problems as you. Hope your new home is less problematic but I don't think the chances are good if a single man living alone in Cihangir has problems with his neighbors, then a single woman's problems will be 10 times worse in any neighborhood.
